The Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh was established in 1996. The Academy, first
headed by Sri K.Sreenivas Reddy, gave a new fillip to the professional activities
moulding young journalists to meet the new challenges that have come into being
with the changing technologies.
The Reorientation classes initiated soon after the setting up the Academy, to the
mofussil journalists in the rural areas proved to be a great shot in the arm as
the rural reporters became better equipped with better understanding of reporting
from the field.
Then Sri Dr.Potturi Venkateswara Rao took over. He involved more and more journalists
at state level. These professionals enriched the Academy's ability to reach out
the budding journalists in the state. Realising the importance of the decades old
Telugu periodicals and the historic significance of the same, he developed the blue
print for the digitalisation. Now we have innumerable digital magazines for ready
reference.
Later it was Sri Dr.Inaganti Venkata Rao who continued the traditions introduced
by his predecessors and encouraged publication of booklets that help the journalists
all over the state. He was instrumental in giving a major face lift to the Academy
by mobilising greater funds from the government, which were used in building up
the more professional activities. He also encouraged senior journalists to undertake
research work into various aspects of society as experienced, and seen through journalistic
mind.
